How It All Started…

A year ago, I wanted to start my own website that would revolve around the great people and places in the Philippines. I wanted to have a resource site that listed Filipino recipes as well the beautiful tourist spots that we have.

Being a student back then, I was leaning towards the choice of availing of free webhosting services that is offered by many hosting sites because extra funds were not available to me that time. I knew I wanted to create my own website but I didn’t know where to get the money to get my own domain so I forgot about my idea and moved on. I had been playing an online pony game back then when I noticed that some people were earning by selling the game currency. We had Paypal Philippines already but it was just for sending payments so I couldn’t sell my virtual stuff there either. I was reading around the internet when I chanced on GoDaddy.com, a domain registrar, and while browsing their site I found out that they offer gift cards! After seeing that, I immediately put up an offer on the game’s forums asking if anyone was interested to trade GoDaddy gift cards for the games currency. I was able to raise the funds I needed to get 2 domains (paid for 2 years each) as well as a 3-month GoDaddy hosting.

The hosting offered by GoDaddy was confusing to me, so when I found the free one year hosting promo with Jumpline, I grabbed the opportunity. I just needed to have a credit card to avail it and I was lucky that Dad had given me a supplementary card then already. My initial plan was actually to make a static website about the Philippines because I wanted to do something during my spare time. Though my domain and hosting had been available already around March 2007, I wasn’t able to really use it because I got bored of making an html site. Around August 2007, I accidentally found Wordpress.com and then I learned about Wordpress.org and that’s when my blogging days started. I created my very first blog on my unused domain and from then on I used it as my personal journal. I learned that there was money in blogging and after that first payment in my Paypal, I started getting a few more domains to make other blogs related to my interests.

Earning online at the comforts of my own home is really a great opportunity. I have chosen the freelance track because I like being at home and I can spend time with our family as much as I wanted. I am able to focus on my desire to learn baking without sacrificing my work time because I don’t have a set schedule. I can earn even if its 3am and I’m on my pajamas. :)
